Why we’re removing the ability to log in or sign up with Facebook and Google (and how to maintain access to your account)

Today you’ll notice that we no longer support the ability to log in or sign up for higi with your Facebook and Google account from a higi Station, higi.com or our iPhone app. Moving forward you will only be able to log in with your higi specific account information (email and password). There were a number of reasons for this decision, but the main drivers were as follows:

  • The Facebook and Google OAuth user experience at the higi Station was less than desirable. We at higi don’t have any control over what those screens look like where you enter your Facebook/Google email and password. Furthermore, these screens from Facebook/Google are designed for use on the web versus a touchscreen kiosk like our higi Stations. This made inputting your account information much more tedious than it needed to be.
  • The Facebook/Google log in process was extremely slow at our higi Stations. This frustrated us as much as it did our users who have shared their feedback with us. Often times it would take over 30 seconds to log in from our Stations running on a 3G connection. This is completely unacceptable to us.

By removing Facebook/Google log in we can provide a more streamlined flow and speedier user experience.

If I originally signed up for higi with Facebook or Google how do I maintain access to my higi account?

Although it’s a small group, of most importance to us is to make sure you users who signed up with Facebook or Google from the get-go can continue to access your higi account.

In order to maintain access to your higi account, you simply need to reset your password using the higi reset password tool. You can do this at a Station (with access to email), at higi.com or using our iPhone app. Below you’ll find directions on how to reset your password:

How to reset your password from a higi Station:

Step 1: Tap “Log In” from the main screen.

Step 2: Enter your email address that was associated with your Facebook/Google account. Tap “Next”.

Step 3: Tap the “Forgot Password” button.

Step 4: Tap “Send” to submit your email address.

Step 5: Check your email for a temporary password and enter this into the Station. Tap “Submit”.

Step 6: Enter your new permanent password you’d like to use to access your higi account moving forward. Tap “Submit”.

That’s it! You now can use that email address and password combination to access your higi account at any time.

How to reset your password from higi.com:

Step 1: Visit higi.com and click “Forgot Password”.

Step 2: Type in the email address that was associated with your Facebook or Google account. Click “Submit”

Step 3: Check your email account for an email with subject line “Forgot your higi passoword?”. Click the reset link in the email.

Step 4: Type in a new password. Click “Submit”.

That’s it! You can now access your account with that email address and password.
