When it comes to keeping your heart healthy, nothing beats maintaining a healthy weight.
In fact, recent research reinforces the guidelines set by the American Heart Association and found that weight maintenance can reduce your type 2 diabetes risk by up to 80 percent. The organization recommends controlling total cholesterol (less than 200 mg/dL), managing blood pressure (less than 120/80 mmHg), reducing blood sugar, eating a healthy diet full of fruits and veggies, quitting smoking, getting in regular exercise and having a body mass index of less than 25 to help prevent heart disease and diabetes.
