Brain Health Rests on Heart Health: Guidelines for Lifestyle Changes

Impacting 50 million people worldwide, dementia is an epidemic that is expected to triple by 2050.

The issue is so pervasive that the World Heath Organization released a strategic public health action plan including guidelines to lower one’s risk for dementia. Some of the key protective health habits that are highly recommended include regular physical activity, consuming a plant-based diet, avoiding toxic and inflammatory foods such as processed grains, sugars and sodium, as well as quitting smoking. These dementia-prevention guidelines are consistent with the same guidelines for heart disease prevention, proving the strong connection between heart and cognitive health.
