Type 1 Diabetes Might Affect Young Brain Development
Childhood is a vital period of time when it comes to brain development, and many studies are conducted to determine what conditions make for the best possible chance of healthy brain development.
One report, in particular, finds that children who are diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at an early age can experience impacts to brain development, including slower brain growth. While the study found a correlation between properly managed blood sugar levels and healthy brain development, there is still much research to be done when it comes to children diagnosed with the autoimmune disease at older ages and its potential impact to the brain.
