The study found higher rates of heart-related problems among individuals who have gum disease or lost teeth. How much of an impact does good oral care have? Regular toothbrushing sessions were associated with a 9 percent lower risk for cardiovascular disease and regular professional cleanings were associated with a 14 percent lower risk.
