A Look Back at 2020

Looking back at 2020, it’s safe to say that none of us could have imagined what the year had in store. Perhaps more than any major world event in recent history, the COVID-19 pandemic has completely changed the way we live our lives. At Higi, with the support of our pharmacy and grocery store partners, we made the difficult but necessary decision to temporarily disable our Stations as part of our national commitment to slow the spread of COVID-19.

Like many of you, we paid close attention to updates from scientists and medical experts about how COVID-19 spreads and the risk factors for severe illness. As we learned more, by mid-summer, we turned Higi Stations back online in many locations. We quickly launched new programs to help you connect with a doctor and other support, stay up to date on vaccines, and learn your risk of heart disease and type 2 diabetes – all of which are proven to be crucial to lowering a person’s risk of dying from COVID-19.

Despite how much has changed in 2020, one thing that has remained the same is how much Higi cares about your health. The pandemic has taught us that we, as a nation, need to do more to prevent chronic health conditions, especially in rural and underserved communities where it can be difficult to access healthcare. As we move into 2021, we’re working closely with our partners to turn the remaining Higi Stations back online safely so you can continue to take charge of your health. We’re excited to introduce you to new Higi features we’ve been working on behind the scenes to help you get healthy, no matter where you live. As we do so, we ask that you help us by spreading the word about Higi in your community. By working together, we can and will do better.

Lastly, I want to thank the heroes working on the front lines: the orderlies, phlebotomists, home health and personal care aides, nurses, doctors, pharmacists, cashiers, and baggers who are tirelessly fighting COVID-19, are keeping food on our shelves and medications in our cabinets, and are preparing for the rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine. As the husband of one such hero, I have witnessed how challenging this work has been and couldn’t be more grateful. Next time you run into someone working on the COVID-19 frontlines, please be sure to let them know how much you appreciate them.

Wishing you a safe, healthy and happy holiday season,
